Teamway is a Romanian tech startup launched on March 10th, 2021. The company built a mobile app that connects passengers and drivers commuting from home to work. Teamway fosters ride sharing among colleagues in an inclusive, profitable and sustainable way. The app’s algorithm makes it easy to coordinate pools, with scheduling, chat features and the opportunity to drive or ride. Teamway features include a geolocalization system, as well as a chat and a notification system.
Bucharest is one of the most congested and polluted cities in Europe. Teamway tackles this issue with a safe, reliable and user-friendly mobile app that connects co-workers commuting in the same direction. By turning coworkers into codrivers, our goal is to decrease traffic and CO2 emissions, thus making a positive impact on the environment and society. We are launching the company in our home country, Romania, but will soon start looking for VC funding to expand across Eastern Europe, as we are determined to grow our business and environmental impact exponentially.
The benefits of corporate carpooling extend way beyond health and environment outcomes. On top of reducing traffic and carbon emissions, our app minimizes parking hassles, creates bonds between coworkers and enables them to save money. Overall, our solution represents a new employer benefit, on top of an efficient solution to help corporations fight climate change.
Carpooling (also named car-sharing and ride-sharing) is the sharing of car journeys so that more than one person travels in a car, and prevents the need for others to have to drive to a location themselves.
By having more people using one vehicle, carpooling reduces each person’s travel costs such as fuel, tolls, and the stress of driving. Carpooling is also a more environmentally friendly and sustainable way to travel as sharing journeys reduces air pollution, carbon emissions, traffic congestion on the roads, and the need for parking spaces.
Car sharing is a good way to use up the full seating capacity of a car, which would otherwise remain unused if it were just the driver using the car.
The implementation of stringent emission regulations by the European Union are expected to accelerate the use of alternative mobility solutions across Europe. Through the Green Deal, the European Commission is poised to make the economy more sustainable, by addressing environmental challenges and turning them into opportunities in several key areas, including urban mobility.
While nascent in Eastern Europe with Teamway, several corporate carpooling players have launched in other regions, including Blabla Lines in 2018 (subsidiary of multi-billion French unicorn Blablacar); and Scoop in 2015 in the USA (which raised 100 MUSD claims 55 corporate clients and 7 million trips). According to Global Market Insights, the ride-sharing market is projected to reach a market size of 8.5 billion USD in the European Union in 2026.
Teamway is much more than an opportunity for corporations to fight CO2 emissions. By collaborating with us, organizations have the opportunity to save money and increase employee loyalty. Teamway’s app is currently available to companies of all sizes throughout Romania – and soon to other countries in Eastern Europe. Get in touch with us!
